I've been working on another quilt for Heidi, and it's been a GREAT trip down Memory Lane! I just can't deny that one of my favorite things about quilting is seeing and working with fabrics that trigger memories. It's kind of like walking into a kitchen and smelling bread in the oven...I'm almost instantly "transported" back to another time and place. This quilt of Heidi's has one print in particular that sent me on a search. I was pretty sure that the fabrics were from Blackbird Designs -- probably my all-time FAVORITE Moda design team (Alma Allen and Barb Adams). I thought the collection was called "Garden...something", but I just couldn't find it in a Google search. I asked Heidi, and she thought it was "Garden Magic". YES! This collection goes back more than ten years...way before "Garden Party" from just a few years ago. Anyway, in the process, I came across many photos of Blackbird Designs fabric collections, and my trip down Memory Lane inspired me all over again to work with their beautiful fabrics and colors. The slide show below includes a short trip down Memory Land so YOU might enjoy some of these beautiful fabrics and quilts. I even found a photo on the web of a finished customer quilt from our 2007-2008 Moda U Block-of-the-Month Club, "Piece and Plenty", which had kits that included all fabrics from Blackbird Designs...mostly from their Madeira collection. The Bride's Bouquet block you'll see is one of mine for the quilt called "Nosegay for Mother" (from their Home Sweet Home book). Those fabrics are from the "Sweet Romance" collection. By the way, one of the FQ bundle photos shows "Hyde Park" -- the upcoming Blackbird collection for late fall 2015. We'll have lots of this fabric for sale in November!
Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoy these creative adventures from the Hearts & Pines Country Quilts Studio.
